On their recent 2 week visit to China in September, Mike and Lu visited four Weddle projects that are currently being built on site: One in Qingdao, two in Shanghai and one in Chenzhou.

The 1.1ha Plant Pavilion for the 2014 Horticultural Exhibition is being built in Qingdao, on the east coast of Shandong province. Foundations are almost ready for the steel frame, with the triple glazed glass following in January 2013. Plants are being sourced and acclimatised for installation in September 2013.

450 km south of Qingdao, the construction of Delta Hospital has started in Shanghai. The riverside flood prevention work is already complete. The hospital grounds will offer a round walk for rehabilitation and will have separate roof gardens for staff and visitors.

5km away on Shanghai’s main shopping street the new towers of the Huijing Square development can be seen nearing completion. The west tower will be for high quality commercial and office units. The east tower is for luxurious apartments with an 8000m² high quality public park for residents and shoppers.

It took a two and a half hour flight and a four hour train journey to get to the fourth project, 1000km south in Hunan province. This is a mixed use development in Chenzhou and is the largest residential site in the city for many years. Its landscape will be characterised by European garden and ecological design. Mike was interviewed for regional TV and press.
